there are a lot of Australians on long summer breaks. i didnt realize how stereotypically Canadian i was till this trip. i say “sorry” about 20+ times a day. today we are drove from Czech Republic to Auschwitz in Poland. the green landscapes are unbelievable. it rained today and the fog gracefully hung onto the hills. we got to Auschwitz around 4. the tour lasted till 8. our guide was amazing..so much information, history. he made it so personal. it was hard to walk through four hours of pain and keep myself together all throughout. auschwitz I had the “work will make you free” sign at the gate (translated). auschwitz II birkenau was just barbed wires on barbed wires. the sun was setting beautifully. I’ve never seen a sunset so eerie and so full of hope. as we were finishing the tour of the camp, there were a few young Orthodox Jewish men walking out of the camp. a train was going by and a dog barked. it has been a heavy day. we got to our hotel in Krakow by 9. polish food is soooooo goooood. idk if it because i was starving but i think i prefer it more than Czech cuisine. but Prague!!!!! we get to go back there on the last day, and im sooo looking forward to it. would def come back in a few years. if you enjoy walking and beautiful gothic and baroque architecture, go to Prague.
